Here at Esperança, we pride ourselves on being good stewards of your gifts. We are always seeking new and better ways to put your dollars to work – bringing hope to people around the world. Every summer we launch a special project that is capable of turning your dollars into so much more. The program that we are referring to is our shipments of medical supplies to our partners, and this year we will be shipping to Nicaragua.
Through our relationships with clinics, medical supply companies and individual donors across the nation we gather a surplus of medical supplies, tools and equipment. The donations are usually due to hospital upgrades and changes, this is a great opportunity for our clinics to receive new equipment like x-ray machines, anesthesia and ultrasound machines are just some of the much needed equipment that will transform thousands of lives. This also includes basic medical supplies like scalpels, gauze and sutures; these items are needed on a daily basis and with this shipment they are readily available for our doctors and local doctors for when we are not present.
Our last shipment was sent on October 2 of 2012, and we are already receiving thanks and stories of how the supplies are changing lives. One letter came from Dalia, a woman with an inguinal hernia, could not afford to purchase the supplies and pay for the procedure to correct her painful condition. And on that last shipment we sent the exact surgical mesh she needed and perform the corrective surgery that is just one of the many things we sent, imagine the countless lives touched and saved with all 2.5 million dollars’ worth. That 2.5 million dollars’ worth of medical supplies reached those that needed it with an investment of only $8,000!
