The Real Danger In Africa…Disease

When Moises contracted cholera, he was terrified. Over the years he had watched family, friends and neighbors die from this deadly disease that accompanies the yearly monsoon flooding. Moises was now in his mid-50’s, considered elderly in a community where the average life expectancy is only 50, and he had respiratory problems. Two years before, death would have been almost certain. Thankfully, he lived in a village where Esperança and its partners were working. Moises continued to do all of the things he had learned: treat his drinking water, wash his hands, eat nutritious food and sleep under a mosquito net so that he didn’t contract another disease like malaria while he fought the cholera. He survived, and shortly thereafter Esperança provided him with the materials and training to build his own latrine. His neighbors did the same, and no one in the village has contracted cholera since the latrines were built. A mosquito net is only $12, and the cost of a latrine is less than $50 while treating cholera and malaria costs hundreds. Esperança hopes you will join our campaign to provide these life-saving materials.
